First State FIRST LEGO League

First State FIRST LEGO League offers two programs affiliated with the international organization, FIRST-

◾ FIRST LEGO League
◾Jr. FIRST LEGO League.

The goals of First State FIRST LEGO League are to build student self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills, while introducing them to the fun and excitement of science, engineering, and technology.

What is FIRST Lego League?

Every September, a new world-wide FLL challenge is announced based on timely, real-world themes, such as nanotechnology, or ocean and space exploration.

Students learn to use programming software, sensors, motors, and gears to construct and program a robot that maneuvers around a playing field. In addition, teams research a problem related to the Challenge theme and present their research solutions to a panel of judges. Students are scored on research, design, teamwork, creativity, and sportsmanship. Finalists are eligible for the state competition and some may go on to the International FLL competition.

Students are organized into teams with 1 or more adult or teenage mentors (parent, teacher, technical or nontechnical volunteers). Middle school teams can be school based, community based, or affiliated with other organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, 4-H, or home school groups.
