On October 19th, 2013, over 30 FRC teams met at Salem Community College in Carneys Point Township, New Jersey for a packed day of competition, fun, and spirit in an annual event co-hosted by MOE 365 and FRC 316, called the Duel on the Delaware.
At the same time, more than 20 FTC teams from around the region joined for a high spirited workshop and scrimmage event sponsored by Diamond State FTC to start the FTC build season.
August 23, 2013, an authenticator from Guinness World Records was on hand as students and volunteers from the Red Clay school district completed construction on the world’s tallest structure made of LEGO toy bricks. In order to qualify, the structure had to be free-standing and contain no adhesives. The previous record-holder, a 106-foot tower, was built in Prague in 2012.
“This has been a great community event,” Red Clay superintendent, Dr. Merv Daugherty, said. “It shows what people can accomplish when they pull together. One kid could have never done this by themselves, but when we all work together as a team we can do something that people thought impossible.”

For several years, Red Clay District has partnered with FSR, hosting both FLL qualifiers and JFLL expo events, and sponsoring school-based FLL and FTC teams. This year, one of FSFLL’s qualifying events will be held Saturday, December 14, at Red Clay’s Conrad School of the Sciences.
When the Smithsonian magazine assigned a reporter and photographer to cover the story of LEGO and FIRST for an article on ideas and innovation, we were happy to have them to see the multi-age multi-level FSR Championship event at the Bob Carpenter Center last January.
Every year, the event is one of the largest single-day robotics competitions of its kind in the world and three program events take place in the same venue. This was the tenth anniversary year and over 100 student teams from six states participated, with students ranging in age from six to eighteen.
